Assistant Principal - Canyon Middle School
Castro Valley, CA – (August 3, 2026) – We are pleased to announce that L’aurelei Durr has been selected for the position of Assistant Principal at Canyon Middle School, filling the vacancy created by Dr. Marie Roberts’s recent promotion to the role of Assistant Director of Expanded Learning Opportunities and Attendance Recovery.
As she joins the CVUSD team, Ms. Durr brings twelve years of school experience as a teacher, instructional coach, and administrator. Her leadership with a Multi-Tiered System of Supports, restorative practices, and culturally responsive instruction directly improved outcomes for the students she has served. She consistently drives student achievement through instructional leadership, strategic planning, and comprehensive teacher coaching.
Ms. Durr holds a Master’s degree in Education from Mills College, along with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in African American Studies from UC Berkeley. Her knowledge and experience have equipped her with the systems-level expertise needed to continuously advance school culture and academic success for students.
